LAS VEGAS - ICSC's Recon, the largest annual commercial real estate gathering, is underway in Las Vegas, where an unprecedented heat wave has the city poised to set a record of 107 degrees Monday. While the temperature is hot, the general mood is somewhat reserved because of the credit crisis/mortgage mess that has slowed business to a crawl for most people here.
Atlanta’s own The Shopping Center Group got things kicked off Sunday night with its annual cocktail party at the Four Seasons Las Vegas. This one was special as the Shopping Center Group celebrated its 25th anniversary, complete with a huge ice statue in the form of “25.”
Shopping Center Group also was celebrating its merger with SiteWorks, an Annapolis, Md.-based retail consultancy that now is part of Shopping Center Group.
People packed the Four Seasons’ grand ballroom, ready to party and drink away concerns about the lousy real estate market.
Lots of Atlanta biz-celebrities were in attendance. Selig Enterprises chief Steve Selig worked the room; Larry Gellerstedt, president of Cousins Properties Office/Multi-family Division, hung out. Abe Schear, co-chair of Arnall Golden Gregory’s real estate practice personally chaperoned Rachel Ramos, retail reporter at The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, to ensure she met all the right people.
As the party died down, several people headed over to the CSFB party to see Huey Lewis & the News perform songs such as “Do You Believe in Love” that haven’t been on the radio in (appropriately enough) 25 years.
Congratulations to David Birnbrey and the rest of The Shopping Center Group.
