ATLANTA (Nov. 2, 2012) - When Georgia economic development officials announced this spring that Baxter Healthcare Corp. would build a plant at Stanton Springs near Covington, Ga., there was talk of 1,500 new jobs at the plant. There also was talk of the multiplier effect, in the form of additional jobs - temporary and permanent - that would arise to service the actual building and servicing of the new plant and its employees.
The first concrete sign of the Baxter plant's multiplier effect came to light this week, when Fluor Enterprises filed plans for a "temporary batch plant" on Baxter's land at Stanton Springs. This will be a "temporary concrete/cement plant to accommodate on-sote construction activity," according to the Development of Regional Impact filing.
Fluor Enterprises' Greenville, S.C., office will develop the batch plant. Fluopr prides itself on designing and building "the world's toughest projects." The billion-dolar Baxter plant, which will prodiuce plasma-based prducts and will be a pretty complex operation.
