CHARLOTTE, N.C. - If Georgia's state bird really is the crane, we might want to tell Charlotte to give us back some of our fledglings.
This morning, I saw cranes in several submarkets in the Queen City, Atlanta's somtime rival to the north. While most of the action centered on - no surprise - multifamily projects, talk of mixed-use and office construction is heating up, too.
I met Charlotte Business Journal reporter and fellow suffering Redskins fan Will Boye for breakfast, and we discussed Charlotte CRE. A senior staffer who covers commercial real estate at CBJ, Boye and colleague Erik Spanberg just chronicled the likely move of the Charlotte Observer from its current u[town home. The site has been listed for sale and should draw decent attention. Check out Will's story here.
On the office side, I was impressed to learn of the rents Lincoln Harris is getting at Two Piedmont Town Center in the air-tight SouthPark submarket. They rival, if not eclipse, rents in the heart of Buckhead's financial district. No wonder Lincoln Harris is working on a couple of new office mid-rises.
Can't wait to return and see what's next in Charlotte, where cranes also roost.
You have not been to Houston lately... Cranes everywhere
